Rockabilly Chili Advertising Campaign

BRANDING, ILLUSTRATION, GRAPHIC DESIGN

2021

Chili Boys Rockabilly

This project was to create an AD Campaign for an existing brand for WMSE advertising their annual fundraiser event RockABilly Chili. We first started with a poster to get the idea of the overall themes that would be used for the project. So, I based my poster off of 80s punk posters, and the male gen z learning demographic. I felt it was important to incorporate the radio station WMSE, so I added underlying themes of music. So, for example, the main mascots are based off of music genres, so Rock is representative of rock music, the next mascot named “A” is based on punk, and Billy is based on jazz music. I really fell in love with the overall advertising design for this project.

The Start

To set the mood, I cranked up some classic punk tunes by Bad Religion, Green Day, and Misfits. As the music fueled my creativity, I began sketching, capturing the raw energy and rebellious spirit of the genre. After this process, I made a deliberate choice: I selected the little bean characters located in the bottom right corner of the page. These quirky figures perfectly aligned with the project’s aesthetic.

Brainstorm

This is the second iteration of mascot drafts. Particularly I liked Chili-head, Chili-goblin and my favorite of all - the Chili Boys! After gathering feedback and careful consideration I chose the Chili Boys (located in top right corner).

Poster Sketches

Next, I needed to focus on putting the new mascots into a poster advertising the event RockABilly Chili Fundraiser.
The poster I selected is in the center below.

Final poster

This final poster will be the starting point of visual themes for the campaign. Colors, type treatment and characters all will be used as a starting point.

Billboards

Below are my mocked-up billboards based on the poster above.

Landing page

The landing page is the home to Rockabilly Chili so it's important to catch attention be easy to read for visitors to get the information they need.

Digital ADS

These small yet important ads will grab the attention of interested viewers that might not know about the event.
